TRI-COUNTY CONEWAGO CREEK ASSOCIATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING, MAY 15, 2002, 7:00 PM MINUTES I. Secretary's Report The April 10 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes and the April 24 Membership Meeting Minutes were approved. II. TCCCA Update WREN Grant: A participant is needed for the workshop on June 13 and 14 at Boiling Springs. Hal Royer has volunteered to attend the workshop. It was suggested that Padraic Farrell may be able to help out with web site design. Landowner Database: Help is needed to gather landowners for Dauphin and Lebanon Counties. Hal has volunteered to travel to Lebanon County Courthouse to gather information. For Dauphin County, it was suggested that the group concentrate on Brills Run. Jay Book knows most of landowners from source to mouth: Hitzes own at source, followed by Lehman, followed by Eagles. There are cattle in the stream north side of Route 341. PennDOT Cleanup: Was held April 27th. Thirteen bags of trash picked up from end of South Hertzler Road. Stream Cleanup: Held May 11th. Big success. Incredible amount of junk was pulled from stream. It was suggested that TCCCA do a press release on the cleanup. MHS Stream Sampling: Tim Hoover was not present to report on the sampling. Students should be heading out to stream this week. Stream Salamander Survey: Nicole Caruso has volunteered to participate in the salamander survey. This is part of a Penn State Ph.D. project. Other volunteers are welcome to sign up. It involves one day of training and one day of sampling. Next activity: Birdwatching Tour June 1st. Tom McKinne will lead, probably on trail in Colebrook. TCCCA will advertise with press release and flyers in Mt. Gretna and Elizabethtown areas. Landowner Leads: John Hertzler has expressed interest in stream bank fencing. Paul Davis has a problem with the Route 230 bridge causing erosion. TCCCA to follow up on these possibilities. III. May 29th Membership Meeting Agenda. Matt plans to include reports from Secretary, Treasurer, reports on PennDOT and Stream Cleanups, reports from Committees. Guest Speaker Dale Bentz from Gleim Environmental will give a presentation on Gleim's stream restoration work. IV. Analysis and Discussion of Snapshot Data A discussion of the Watershed Snapshot data was held. Tom Murray said the data can be analyzed fairly easily to assess the health of the stream. He believes that he can build upon the data gathered to develop a monitoring program using college students. The establishment of other monitoring points was discussed, such as a point downstream from the industrial park discharge and in the trout stocking area. V. Other Business Nathan Gerard: Nathan is a boy scout working toward his Eagle badge. He would like to do a project for the Conewago. Tree planting, stream cleanup were discussed as possible options. VI. Next Board Meeting The next Board meeting was scheduled for June 18th at 7p.m. at the Milton Hershey Environmental Center. There being no other business, the meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m. 2
