TRI-COUNTY CONEWAGO CREEK ASSOCIATION LAWN FIRE DEPARTMENT – July 31, 2002, 7:00 PM MEETING MINUTES I. Welcome and Introductions II. Reviewed Secretary's Report of July 31st Board Meeting III. Treasurer's Report There was an expense of $150.00 for the group's 501c exemption. Another member has paid a dues amount of $10.00. This brings the balance to $607.04. IV. Projects Report Eagle Scout Project: ? Nathan Gerard was present to introduce his Eagle Scout Project of cleaning up a small area of the stream near the Rt. 230 trailhead. All volunteers were welcomed to help on Saturday, August 3rd, meeting at 9:00am. Nathan asked for suggestions on erecting "no dumping" signs in the area and also asked the group of other project ideas. Landowner Database and Maps: ? Tom Murray has mapped 50% of the 170 landowners along the main stem of the Conewago. There are approximately 6,000 total landowners in the watershed. Lebanon County is proving to be difficult to gather and map. Web Site Design: ? The web site ad-hoc committee met in July to discuss ideas and goals for the web site. Some ideas from the general group are as follows; minutes, maps, mission statement, WREN needs to be a link, when/where we meet, FAQ, Diligence stream watchers. Brochure Design: ? Group has yet to meet. Salamander Survey: ? This project has been postponed twice. ? Watershed Assessment/Stream Improvement Projects: ? Possible resources for obtaining native plants for various Milton Hershey landowners along the creek are Ag departments at local schools, nurseries, donated plants, CBF. ? Volunteers are needed to contact municipalities to see which projects are getting ready for development within the watershed. ? Bill Stoffel, a watershed landowner, has "volunteered" his property for plantings. He has a bare streambank that he would like us to plant with native flora. ? Jim Hess, another watershed landowner, has a cow pasture that he is willing to have us look at. He has researched the CREP program but is concerned with the upfront cost. V. Funding and Organizational Report Matt reported that Hal Royer and Matt Kofroth received the WREN Grant and it is now in the possession of Lancaster County Conversation District for TCCCA use. Volunteers are needed for the Art Show Fundraiser to be held on September 21st and 22nd. Matt hopes to interest local artists during the Mount Gretna Art Show to donate artwork. The group's 501 c (3) Application was filed Friday, July 26th. VI. New Business Restore Corp: ? Restore Corp works on restoration projects ? They can focus on training and developing volunteers ? Provides contact service for recruitment ? Provides press releases for volunteer projects and training initiatives ? Web site is www.restorecorps.org RETTEW Tour of Wetlands Remediation Projects in watershed will be held on Saturday, August 24th at 9:00am. Meet at the Lawn Fire Department. VII.
